Problem:

Mill was experiencing stickies & wax spots in the final linerboard sheet. The unacceptable appearance/high dirt counts & poor slide angles resulted in downgraded & culled production. Press felt filling (inorganic/organic) resulted in poor dewatering and sheet consolidation and required significant felt cleaning.


The advanced Stock Preparation system (.008 slot fine screens and extensive lightweight cleaning capacity) was being pushed for maximum production and was often operating above consistency specifications. The system produced highly variable quality stock for the machine. Mill’s goal was to maintain high stock prep. production, while improving stickies & wax removal.


Solution:
ENESSCO Technology was initiated as a Contaminants "Modification" Treatment. ENESSCO is fed to the pulper. The ENESSCO promotes the contaminants to "independently" release from the fiber substrate. The larger contaminants are stabilized and are more efficiently removed by the stock preparation equipment.

 

Testing before & after ENESSCO addition showed substantially greater wax contaminants being rejected by the fine screens & lightweight cleaners. ENESSCO improved stock quality and minimized variation.


Liquid ENESSCO is fed to the pulper at a std. 0.85 lb./ton and adjusted relative to furnish wax content.

 

          

Results:
ENESSCO treatment resulted in a dramatic improvement in PM efficiency. As outlined in the graphs below: the mill’s major justification criteria outlined a 38 T/D increase in “First Quality Production”, with an associated “Cull Reduction” of 80% (An elimination of 25 tpd of dirt cull).  First Quality Production (T/D)578540520530540550560570580590STD. OPERATIONWITH ENESSCO The benefits of improved sheet appearance proved ENESSCO’s ability to assist the mechanical equipment to remove wax & stickies, while the documented 4% increase in incremental production emphasized a significant ENESSCO program R.O.I.


Additional areas of value attributed to ENESSCO include reduction of Anti-skid (35%) and cleaner operating paper machine W/E & Dryer fabrics.


NOTE: These results were collected over a 11 month period (6 months with ENESSCO, compared to 5 months with No Treatment). Following an unsuccessful trial by Buckman Labs, the application is now fulltime.
